Welcome to A Faster Future! This website has been created as a companion site to the forthcoming book A Faster Future by Brad Howarth and Janelle Ledwidge.
The Australian Government’s proposal to invest $36 billion in a National Broadband Network (NBN) that will deliver 100 Megabits/second (Mbps) connectivity to Australian households has raised many questions around what such fast download speeds could be used for. While history has shown that the people have a habit of using up bandwidth as quickly as it is given to them, we still think that it’s worth exploring today what some of those new applications might be.
While the NBN itself will take up to eight years to deploy fully, some Australian households are experiencing 100 Mbps connections today. Furthermore, we think it is important that Australian businesses and government organisations begin planning now for the opportunities that fast, ubiquitous and reliable broadband will bring.
We’ll be posting a series of articles and links that we hope will showcase the future of broadband applications, both for business and consumer, across wireless and wired networks.
No one in 1995 few people could have foreseen the massive impact that the internet has had on the way that we live and work. We believe that the changes in the next ten years will be even more profound.
So welcome again to A Faster Future.
