Smart grid technologies offer to save power companies potentially millions of dollars by helping them to better manage their networks, while saving consumers potentially hundreds by helping them manage their consumption. So it’s not surprising then to hear that NSW energy retailer EnergyAustralia is in talks with the National Broadband Network Company (NBN Co) to use the network as a gateway into its household and business customers.
Speaking at the IQPC Smart Grids Forusm EnergyAustralia managing director George Maltabarrow said the two companies have a common interest in the ‘last mile’ of networks between the exchange and the user. Maltabarrow said his company was exploring the idea of a gateway to the household that would be provided on an open-access basis to companies such as his.
