So it&#8217;s not surprising then to hear that NSW energy retailer <a title="EnergyAustralia" href="http://www.energyaustralia.com.au/" target="_blank">EnergyAustralia</a> is in talks with the <a title="NBN Co" href="http://www.nbnco.com.au/" target="_blank">National Broadband Network Company</a> (NBN Co) to use the network as a gateway into its household and business customers.</p>
<p>Speaking at the <a href="http://www.smartgridsevent.com.au/Event.aspx?id=246228" target="_blank">IQPC Smart Grids Forusm</a> EnergyAustralia managing director <a title="George Maltabarrow" href="http://www.directory.nsw.gov.au/showPosition.asp?id={450F351D-4C27-4B9C-A1BD-DF09194AB09D}" target="_blank">George Maltabarrow</a> said the two companies have a common interest in the &#8216;last mile&#8217; of networks between the exchange and the user. Maltabarrow said his company was exploring the idea of a gateway to the household that would be provided on an open-access basis to companies such as his.</p>
